Cocoa, FL – 1/20/2026– Tanning salon owners and equipment technicians across the country have long relied on the Magnetek / Universal Lighting Technologies Triad B493B2 electronic ballast, an industry-standard component used for decades in thousands of tanning beds. Today, we are announcing a critical industry update: The original 493B2 ballast is no longer being manufactured.

The electronic ballast was originally produced by Magnetek, later acquired and marketed by Universal Lighting Technologies under the Triad brand. It was also private-labeled by ETS Tanning in Indianapolis as part number 20245, and supplied under various private-label agreements to multiple manufacturers throughout the indoor tanning industry.

Production ceased after Universal Lighting Technologies’ partner factory in Mexico was shut down, ending manufacturing of this long-running ballast model.

For decades, the 493B2 ballast was the go-to solution for operating two UV tanning lamps and featured:

  • 110V input with one black and one white power lead

  • Six output wires:

    • 2 × Blue

    • 2 × Yellow

    • 2 × Red

  • Widely used across numerous tanning bed brands from the 1990s through the 2010s

This ballast became a universal standard in the tanning industry due to its reliability, availability, and compatibility.
